Welcome to VegasMessageBoard It appears you are visiting our community as a guest.
In order to view full-size images, participate in discussions, vote in polls, etc, you will need to or So short story I went to a local casino and chose to sit at a blackjack table.
When I sat I noticed the gentleman playing the table was playing two spots legal?
He became kinda upset when I sat down and before the cards were delt again he left.
Did I break some etiquette?
This being said as a guy who lifts and appreciates good gym etiquette what are some untold casino gaming rules?
I always ask if they're ok with me jumping in midshoe.
Never really had anyone care but I've asked someone to wait a few hands personally if I'm on a roll and winning a bunch of hands in a row I always ask if they're ok blackjack table etiquette me jumping in midshoe.
Never really had anyone care but I've asked someone to wait a few hands personally if I'm on a roll and winning a bunch of hands in a row Click to expand.
I agree with this.
Also, playing two hands is common.
You usually have to increase the wager on each to play two or more spots.
I always ask before joing a game if it's in the middle of a shoe.
I'd say you're in a bit of a gray area.
You did nothing wrong.
You're certainly entitled to sit down and play whenever you choose unless the casino doesn't allow mid-shoe entry.
But many gamblers are superstitious and feel that a newcomer might "change the cards".
I usually just ask if the folks at the table mind if I join right away or if they'd rather I wait until the shuffle.
More often than not, people will respond, "hop in, it can't get any worse".
But occasionally someone will ask if I will wait until next shoe.
As long as he isn't a dick about it or it isn't the second hand of a six deck shoe, I'll oblige or go to another table.
Let here reiterate that this isn't 100% black and white.
BJ etiquette is debated on this board all the time.
And you'll never please everyone.
And playing two hands isn't out of the ordinary.
But many casinos will require you play at a certain level usually 2X the table minimum to do so.
Unless you do it just to keep someone else from playing, it really can't be considered rude.
I was at the Downtown Grand last week; played some video poker then decided to play some BJ.
I stood by a table with 3 players and told the dealer that I would wait until the end of the shoe before I would buy-in, which brought a nod of approval from one of the players.
A few minutes later a guy pushed past me and blackjack table etiquette down and bought in at the table.
He made a couple of what I would consider "bad decisions" on the next several hands.
At the end of the shoe the original three players colored up and left; leaving me still standing there with players card and money in hand.
I certainly wasn't going to play with this dude at the table.
I always ask before joing a game if it's in the middle of a shoe.
I stood by a table with 3 players and told the dealer that I would wait until the end of the shoe before I would buy-in, which brought a nod of approval from one of the players.
A few minutes later a guy pushed past me and sat down and bought in at the table.
That was your error - You should have sat down in your planned seat while you waited.
Anyway, to the OP's point, I rarely play anything except two-deck, but in two-deck, I always wait for the shuffle - even when mid-deck entry is allowed.
On those rare occasions when I'm playing a 6-deck shoe, I join the table, buy-in, and then ask if anyone would prefer that I wait to jump in.
Vast majority of the time, nobody asks me to wait.
If the shoe is close to the end, I won't even ask - I just wait for the shuffle.
In the case of your situation only one player, playing two handsI would have asked if he'd prefer that I wait a few hands, but I would not have waited for the shuffle if the shoe was still pretty "fresh".
He could always have kept the cards "the same" by reducing to one hand, if it was that big of a deal to him.
I would have allowed him 2 or 3 hands before jumping in, but no more than that.
I play 2 deck, dealer sticks soft 17 which is usually a little higher level of play but it has the howest house percentage of any other game excepy Baccarat.
If someone is sitting at the table playing 3-500 per hand, I always ask if it ok to sit down and play.
Make sure you know your basic strategy for the exact game you are paying at all times since it differs from game to game slightly.
ALK545 I always ask if people mind if I jump in whether mid-shoe or otherwise, since a lot of times I wind up playing a CSMnever had anyone say no.
It's mostly just out of habit at this point.
Well honestly I was 21 at the time and never even seen the inside of a casino so I assumed if the spot was open I could sit.
My gaming career if you can call it that since has been nothing more then 1-2 times every six months, but the casinos here in Missouri are nothing special.
Being an older guy now, 27, and going to Vegas for the first time, I'd love to avoid a similar situation.
Everyone's feedback on this forum has been super helpful.
I'll always ask when I sit down and wait if they are on a roll, however if they are losing, or betting the table min, I wont wait long.

The only 'etiquette' issue is when you jump in.
For a two deck game, or a nearly-exhausted shoe, I would just wait for the shuffle.
One thing that I personally feel is even more important when there's only one player at the table you are joining is 'position'.
Unless that player is already at first or third, I always ask if they'd prefer me to their left or right.
Some people that play 2 hands want the table all to themselves.
The guy probably was more irritated that you joined him, he probably wanted to play by himself and so left not long after because you were there.
As for etiquette, guess you could be nice and ask the other guy if more info minded if you joined him in the game.
There really is no real official "rule" on entering a game and you can join in any time you want, just that some people don't like it if a new player jumps in at certain times middle of the shoe, hot table, etc.
As for the other poster who waited, you probably could have sat down and waited so someone else doesn't take the seat.
But like the other players, I usually get off the table when I notice players making questionable blackjack table etiquette />I play 2 deck, dealer sticks soft 17 which is usually a little higher level of play but it has the howest house percentage of any other game excepy Baccarat.
ALK545 I play 2 deck, dealer sticks soft 17 which is usually a little higher level of play but it has the howest house percentage of any other game excepy Baccarat.
ALK545 I am supposed to ask someone if I can play a game and if they say 'No' I am supposed to stand around and wait while on my vacation?
Geesh, these blackjack players are a touchy bunch.
I guess when tossing the dice at the Craps table every person wanting to play should have to ask me if I mind they join in?
I am supposed to ask someone if I can play a game and if they say 'No' I am supposed to stand around and wait while on my vacation?
Geesh, these blackjack players are a touchy bunch.
I guess when tossing the dice at the Craps table every person wanting to play should have to ask me if I mind they join in?
The difference with craps is that a person who joins the table learn more here causing the dice to move differently.
It's all on how you throw them.
In BJ the person who joins the game is changing how the cards are dealt out.
But in all actuality, the addition of a new player doesn't change the odds at all.
It may affect the count, but it is out of anyone's control whether the new player is making it better or worse unless the dealer is cheating by sorting the cards in some order.
It's just a courtesy thing that some people do and some don't.
Honestly, I've never given this much thought until tonight.
If I see any empty chair that I like, I sit down.
I put my money on the table but at the edge closest to me.
If the dealer invites me in, I push my money forward.
Or if another player at the table needs space.
In all the BJ games I've played, I only remember 2 times that someone's asked me to wait.
And I said sure.

Blackjack is one of the most exciting and engaging table games, especially if you prefer to play in a brick-and-mortar casino.
Of course, you have to practice frequently, hone your strategy and choose carefully where you play.
If you are a seasoned player, then you know blackjack is largely a game of strategy and boasts one of the lowest house edges.
But those good odds will only work in your favor if you know the nitty-gritty of the game and how to beat it.
In most blackjack variants, particularly where the cards are dealt face down and pitched to you, it is crucial that you pick and hold the card with a single hand, not with two hands.
This rule of etiquette applies to both single-deck and multi-deck blackjack games.
It is often enforced by casinos to keep you from cheating, switching or tampering with your cards.
This rule may also work in your favor.
In a physical casino, the overhead and surrounding security cameras must have a clear view of all cash transactions happening at the blackjack table or any other table, for that matter.
The dealer will pan out the money so that the cameras can capture the transaction, give an official count, and eventually give you chips equivalent to your cash.
Instead, wait until the ongoing hand is finished before you lay your money on the table in front of the dealer.
Do make a point of learning the rules playing blackjack before you sit at the table From the surface, blackjack looks and feels like a very simple game.
Here are some potential decisions that you have to make, and the rules that apply to each: Hit: Hitting is a fundamental move that you will come across frequently while playing blackjack.
Stand: Standing is a decision that goes hand in hand with hitting.
Double Down: Doubling down is a blackjack lingo that refers to when you double your bet size while taking one more card at the same article source />Splitting: In blackjack, blackjack table etiquette are permitted to split when you have two cards of the same rank in your hand.
This action allows you to split them into two separate hands.
Surrender: If you are an avid poker player, surrendering is much akin to folding.
When you surrender, you give up 50% of your bet and retain the other hand.
However, you cannot claim any winnings later in the round.
Do get to know card values before sitting down This is another aspect of the game that you need to understand right off the bat.
The last thing you want to do is ask in the middle of hand what the value of an ace is.
In saying that, all cards from the blackjack deck are worth their rank, with the exception of face cards and aces.
For example, a two of spades is worth 2 points, while all jacks, queens, and kings are worth 10 points each.
An ace counts as either 11 or 1, depending on which value works best in the favor of your hand.
Remember the best possible hand is one whose total is 21.
However, if you have a two-card hand whose value is equivalent to 21, then you have a blackjack that pays 3:2 in most casinos.
Casinos are very vigilant, making sure that every activity at the blackjack table etiquette is in full view of the overhead cameras.
If you hold or remove the cards from the table, you risk getting ousted and banned from the casino.
This remains the case until you either tie, win or lose the hand.
If you win or tie, you are then allowed to remove the chips and place the next bet.
If the dealer deals the cards face up, it makes no sense to hold, pick up or touch the cards.
Let the dealer do their thing as you wait for the outcomes to be delivered.
It is okay to advise for advice from the dealer The dealer is supposed to operate a blackjack game in a courteous, friendly and pizza blackjacks way.
Believe it or not, blackjack dealers are not out to whisk off your money or beat you.
In fact, most dealers blackjack table etiquette actually rooting for you, which is why they are more than willing to give you mathematically-informed advice.
For instance, you can ask if it makes sense to split, stand or hit.
The good news is that you can ask to be shown appropriate signals before you sit at the blackjack table.
Similarly, place the needed number of chips beside https://microrcracing.com/blackjack/what-is-blackjack.html bet if you want to double down or split.
For instance, you may request 25-dollar chips and 10-dollar chips.
When placing your bets, it is important that you stack lower denomination chips on top, while higher value chips blackjack table etiquette at the bottom of the stack.
If you stack them wrongly, the dealer will be forced to halt the game for a while to re-organize your stack.
This can be a huge spoiler of the mood and atmosphere of the table.
Once your turn is over, wait patiently until the dealer is done with the round and comes back to you.
The exception to this rule is when the other player explicitly asks for your advice.
Do tip your dealer handsomely Playing blackjack is all about having fun after all, the house edge is already pretty low.
It is worth noting, however, that dealers like all employees in the service industry are not paid well.
In some casinos, the dealers receive a minimum wage, which means they depend chiefly on tips.
The third base player always takes the heat for any mistakes.
For instance, if you take a burst card away from the dealer, all other players will be enraged at you.
Do request the dealer to reserve your seat if you want to step away from the table for awhile This happens more frequently when playing blackjack than you think.
You may want to take a restroom break or grab something to eat.
This is a big no-no.
You might be required to wait out until the whole shoe or round is completed before you can get into action.
Note that counting cards is not the same as changing the conditions of the game.
Changing the size of your bet after seeing your cards, however, amounts to cheating.
